Today I was very hungry...I had a sandwich at noon...then some Chinese food at 8. We need to get groceries.
At church today, I was very...surprised. Apparently the Carpenter's Hammer People (A group of church members that fixes homes free of charge for those who really need it, all accrossed the east coast.) went to West Virginia and fixed up a home for a needy family. While they were there, one of the members bought the children of the house new clothes and shoes. Some toys as well. It wasn't much, but for those children it meant alot, the little girl didn't even have a proper pair of shoes, despite the fact that her front yard was littered with nails.
As the day cam e to a close, the Carpenter's Hammer members invited the needy family and the president of the park(They ate within the park) to join them. The little boy of the family looked up at my pastor after the meal and said "This is the best day of my life."
At the park they also held a communion. The park president was worried at first that the church members were a cult Xddd( because they had a large fire burning). She,the park president, took part in the communion. My pastor gave everyone bread and the wine and such, but she gave the park president the communion last, so that the park president could give the wine and blessing to her(My pastor).
The president of the park came up to the pastor later and said, "I was so worried about what was going on because..."
Apparently the week before, at the park this woman cared about so much, had been vandalized. There was graffiti that said "KKK. Go Away Nigger!" The park president is African American.
The park committee washed away what they could, but the hurt feelings weren't so easy to do away with.
It made me so happy to hear, that my little,small town church, made such an impact on these peoples lives.
